Delta Airlines Pet Policy

While traveling with Delta Airlines with pets, you need to adhere to the Delta Airlines pet policy that has been formulated by the airline. The pointers about the policy with the airline are given here in detail for you to understand to have a smooth journey with the pets:

Carry-on pet policy:

The information on the carry-on pet policy with the airline is as follows:

  • The airline allows you to take small cats, dogs, and home birds in the cabin by making a payment of the one-way fee during check-in. Special care needs to be taken that the pet is in a ventilated kennel that would be kept beneath the seat in which you are sitting.
  • Pets of at least 8 months of age are only allowed to be taken in the cabin for domestic travel planned.
  • Only one pet is allowed to be taken in a single kennel. The exception is made in the case of a dog or cat traveling with the litter, which is between 8 weeks and 6 months of age. No limit is set on the number of babies in the litter that can safely fit inside the cage.

Seating space policy with carry-on pets:

If you are traveling with your carry-on pet, you will not be allowed to choose the bulkhead seats, emergency exit row seats, flat beds, or any seat designated as no stowage.

Pet policy pertaining to shipping the pets:

If you plan to ship your pets in cargo, they should meet specific requirements. The policy for the same is given here:

  • The pets that get shipped through the cargo need to be booked on the flight as a separate reservation. The reservation for the same cannot be made by a minimum of 14 days before the scheduled departure of the flight.
  • You need to arrive at the cargo facility for Delta at least 4 to 6 hours prior to the departure time of the domestic flights and at least 6 hours prior to international travel time. The minimum time for check-in for pets is 2.5 hours and 4 hours for domestic and international travel, respectively.
