Etihad Airways Cuts Fares by 50% To Boost Air Travel Amid Regional Tension

Etihad Airways Slashes Fares By 50% To Stimulate Air Travel Amid Regional Tensions

Recently, Etihad Airways announced its pre-summer sale amid the ongoing regional tensions on most of its long-haul routes. UAE-based airlines have cut fares by up to 50% since the war has negatively impacted tourism across many nations. To control the situation and boost travel demand, Etihad Airlines officials reduced their fares on popular destinations for the summer with the expectation that air travel would rejuvenate again and geopolitical disputes would ease by then.

Etihad Airways is one of the UAE's flag carriers and has started the price battle among other Gulf-based carriers by reducing flight prices on most selected routes which include routes from the UK to Asia and Australia, like London Heathrow (LHR) to the Middle East, and other destinations, including Sydney (SYD), Singapore (SIN), Hong  Kong (HKG), and more. Travelers who are planning to travel in summer now have the best time to book fares to their dream destinations, as they have the opportunity to get a round-trip at the cost of one-way fares.

Although Etihad Airways has not made the announcement publicly through its official channels, there are rumors that an insider at the airline said the airline is preparing for the upcoming summer travel season and aims to attract more passengers. The insider told Britain's News, saying. "As soon as travel picks up, we want to be back to flying planes 100% full in all cabins, as we were before the conflict. These prices will help."

Which Etihad Airways routes have 50% off?

Etihad Airways is aiming to achieve its sales targets before July 1, 2026, especially on return travel by reducing its Economy and Business Class fares. The Economy fare return ticket on London Heathrow (LHR) to Sydney (SYD) via Abu Dhabi (AUH) starts from GBP 660-699 for departure in May and return in June. On the other hand, Etihad Airways Business Class return fares on the same LHR-SYD route will be available from GBP 2450-2499, inclusive of all taxes.

For a quick comparison, Etihad is offering lower fares than a typical European carrier like British Airways for the same route, with some tickets priced at less than half the equivalent BA fares:

  • The same return ticket on British Airways for the LHR-SYD flight is priced from GBP 1,850-1899 in Economy and GBP 10,400-10,500 in Business Class via Singapore (SIN).
  • A normal Business-class return fare to Singapore (SIN) on Etihad is available from GBP 1,525-1599, while BA charges GBP 8,465-8,529 for the same cabin & route.

Some other routes on which fares are reduced up to 50% includes all flights from the UK or continental European cities to Singapore (SIN), Hong Kong (HKG), the Maldives (MLE), Bangkok (BKK), and Tokyo. It is important to note that fares are subject to change and may differ at the time of booking.

The discounted fares are expected to be available for a certain period so that customers have ample opportunity to plan their summer vacations to their long-desired destinations. This aggressive Etihad Airways strategy shows its commitment to returning to pre-crisis levels and increasing passenger numbers.
