You feel relieved after making online reservations to your destination, as you have now reserved a seat for yourself. Airlines prefer booking of seats so that you may save money on the bookings. Generally, the early bookings save you a great deal of money. The fare charged by the airlines on the bookings increases as the date of your journey comes near.

Meaning of "no-show"

You don't need to be able to catch the flight on the date of the bookings as many unforeseen situations arise in between, due to which you have to postpone your flight and cancel the tickets. Then arises a problem when you cannot catch the flight on the date of the journey, i.e., you are counted among the "no-show" list of the passengers. The "no-situation" arises due to some matter of urgent importance due to which you are not able to reach the airport or maybe you were caught in the unexpected traffic on the way due to which you could not reach the airport on time.

Difference between 'no-show' and 'cancellation'

There is a very minute difference between the "no show" and cancellation policy of the airlines. The refund process of an airline is applicable in cancellations of tickets only if the bookings are canceled within 24 hours of the bookings.  If you cancel the tickets after 24 hours of booking, you do not get compensation in the form of a refund, but you get credit for 365 days in the same airlines.

  • Credit is a facility for getting the option of booking your tickets at any time in the next 365 days.
  • You shall have to pay the fare difference (if any) at the time of making your next booking.

The primary difference between Cancellation and No-show is that cancellation is a pre-planned situation where you cancel the tickets intentionally, and the airline makes further provisions regarding the same. In "no-show” the situation is not pre-planned but arises due to some severe problems. In case of no show, you have to inform the airlines about the incident within 24 hours of becoming a 'no-show' passenger so that the airlines may make further provisions of credit on your account.

Following are provisions for Cancellation and No-show for better understanding-


  • You can cancel the tickets by visiting the website of the airlines.
  • You get a full refund if you cancel the flight within 24 hours of the booking
  • Few airlines provide you refund according to their fare rules which are mentioned at the time of booking
  • You get credit for 365 days if tickets are canceled after 24 hours of the booking


  • In this process, you do not cancel the ticket, but you cannot reach the airport at the time of the flight, and as a result, you miss the flight.
  • You have to inform the airlines within 24 hours of becoming a no-show passenger.
  • If you wish to catch another flight, the airlines can provide a seat (if available) on the next flight (if available) on the same day.

Meaning of credit  

  • The simple meaning of "providing you credit" is that the airlines keep your money and provides
  • You with the facility of rebooking the flight at any time within 365 days from the date of journey.
  • The credit shall be used in the same airlines for the same passenger.
  • You will have to pay the difference in fare you change your destination at the time of rebooking of tickets.
  • You will have to pay the difference in fare when rebooking the tickets to the same destination.
  • You shall not have to any fine on becoming a 'no-show passenger'


Canceling a ticket is more profitable if the cancellations are made within 24 hours of the booking by dialing 1-802-341-3403. Hence, if you wish to cancel them, it is advisable to make up your mind within 24 hours of making reservations. Otherwise, there is not much difference in airlines' policy regarding cancellations and no-shows. But you should try your best to reach the airport on time and save yourself from the troubles of becoming a 'no-show passenger.' Try to get to the airport early for which you can book a cab in advance so that you don't get stuck in traffic and miss the flight.
